This on-site inspection was carried out in response to the heatwave warning being raised from the caution stage to the severe stage and concerns about the occurrence of heat-related illnesses among elderly people in environments with poor cooling facilities due to the continuous heatwave.
Heatwave shelters are equipped with cooling facilities such as air conditioners and fans and are open at all times, allowing elderly people to freely rest in cool places. Currently, 341 senior centers in the city are designated as heatwave shelters.
This year, the city plans to support cooling expenses with a total of 350,000 KRW per center, including 230,000 KRW per center for cooling costs and an additional 120,000 KRW to cover the increase in cooling expenses.
Additionally, the city plans to actively prevent heat-related illnesses among the elderly by providing an extra 100,000 KRW for cooling expenses from the disaster relief fund received from Gyeongsangnam-do.
