Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Urges Focus on Resident Benefits and Future Strategy Projects
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, ordered to focus on beneficiary projects for residents and future strategic projects by utilizing the integrated fiscal stabilization fund reserved in response to the government's fiscal austerity policy.
On the 22nd, at the policy meeting with department heads, Governor Kim said, "Since the finances are difficult due to the decrease in local allocation tax and local consumption tax, it is time to exercise wisdom to operate the budget rationally by reducing unnecessary expenditures."
He continued, "Although the government's fiscal austerity policy is expected to continue next year, the integrated fiscal stabilization fund of about 170 billion won that has been reserved so far is expected to play a buffering role," adding, "Reduce unnecessary current expenses and cut the budget by reviewing projects without results, but adjust to increase the budget for projects that provide real help to residents or strategic projects for regional future growth."
He also said, "As the government's efforts to secure the national treasury budget are coming to an end, put in the final all-out effort, and in the budget session of the National Assembly, regardless of party affiliation, work with local lawmakers and lawmakers who are interested in Jeollanam-do to secure the national treasury budget," and ordered, "Actively push for the passage of pending bills such as the 'Special Act on the Promotion of Wind Power Preservation,' the 'Special Act on the Development and Advancement of the South Coast Area,' and the 'Special Act on the Relocation of Gwangju Military Airport and Development of Former Military Site' at the regular National Assembly session in September."
He also emphasized efforts to expand the number of foreign students.
Governor Kim said, "The best way to revitalize local universities is to attract a large number of excellent foreign students," adding, "Actively respond to the government's goal of attracting 300,000 students by cooperating with local universities to attract foreign students, and create institutional conditions for them to work as seasonal workers to revitalize the local economy and enhance university competitiveness."
