Gokseong-gun Confirmed as Host for the 2024 Korea River Day Conference

Discussion on the Future of Rivers and Streams, Sharing Global Best Practices by Region

The "23rd Korea River Day Conference," organized by the Gangsaligi Gokseong Network (tentative name, representative Park Jeong-su), will be held around August next year in Gokseong-gun (Governor Lee Sang-cheol).

At the 22nd Korea River Day Iksan Conference held from the 17th to the 19th of last month, Gokseong-gun was selected as the host for next year through a vote by the operating committee organizations of the Korea River Restoration Network.

The Gangsaligi Gokseong Network plans to hold various forums and seminars on river and stream restoration strategies, biodiversity protection, and restoration, starting with the inauguration ceremony of the preparatory committee in January next year.

The "Korea River Day Conference" is a representative domestic event for the protection of rivers and streams. At this conference, river and stream experts nationwide and environmental organizations gather to discuss the future of rivers and streams and share local conservation cases and world-class best practices in a learning environment.

The event is mainly organized by private organizations and is promoted with support from the Ministry of Environment, metropolitan local governments, and municipal governments. Participants use this opportunity to interact based on their affection for rivers and streams and to jointly seek sustainable river management methods.

Park Jeong-su, the representative of the preparatory committee and the Gangsaligi Gokseong Network, said, "This Gokseong conference will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the national wetlands of the Seomjin River and the conservation cases of the Seomjin River."

Lee Sang-cheol, Governor of Gokseong-gun, said, "The Seomjin River is an important life foundation in the Honam region, and cherishing and preserving it is the responsibility of our generation. Through this 'Korea River Day,' I hope the meaning of the Seomjin River will be reaffirmed and its value passed on to future generations."
