Namwon-si to Operate 'Suseo-bound SRT Train' Starting Next Month

Starting next month, it will be possible to use the SRT (Super Rapid Train) high-speed rail from Namwon to Suseo Station in Gangnam, Seoul.

According to the city on the 21st, as SRT Co., Ltd. will begin operating the Jeolla Line from the 1st of next month, the SRT high-speed train running between Yeosu·Suncheon and Seoul Suseo on the Jeolla Line will operate, making it possible to use the railway to Suseo from Namwon as well, the city announced on the 21st.

As a result, boarding and alighting the SRT high-speed train departing from Suseo will be possible from Jeonju and Namwon, greatly alleviating the inconvenience for railway passengers using the Jeolla Line who previously had to transfer at Iksan Station or move again at Seoul Yongsan Station to get to Gangnam, Seoul. This is expected to expand railway transportation demand and improve transportation convenience for residents in the eastern part of Jeonbuk Province.

Additionally, this operation is expected to enable access to the southern metropolitan area, including Gangnam in Seoul, Bundang, and Guri.

The Jeolla Line SRT, which will operate from the 1st of next month, will run twice daily round trips, totaling four trips per day, starting from Yeosu Expo Station to Suseo Station. Reservations and ticket sales opened at 3 p.m. on the 11th.

Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, “Namwon is a strategic hub where a comprehensive transportation network can be established, connecting Honam region and major metropolitan areas nationwide, as it passes through KTX and Dalbit Inland Railroad routes, as well as two expressways.”

He added, “Now that SRT operation in Namwon is possible, it is expected that the mobility of residents in the eastern inland area will be guaranteed, and the transportation demand and convenience for railway users in Namwon will significantly increase.”

Meanwhile, from the 1st of next month, the SRT Jeolla Line will newly stop at Jeonju, Namwon, Gokseong, Gurye-gun, Suncheon, Yeocheon, and Yeosu Expo Station.
