Dunamu Partners with Hansujeong and Environmental Foundation to Preserve Biodiversity
Dunamu, the operator of the domestic virtual asset exchange Upbit, announced on the 21st that it has signed a joint business agreement (MOU) with the Korea National Arboretum and the Environmental Foundation to conserve biodiversity.
This agreement was signed as part of Dunamu's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) keyword "Tree," aiming to promote the "Biodiversity Conservation Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Project" over three years until 2026. The agreement was made on the 18th.
The biodiversity conservation NFT project involves creating NFTs from images of major plant seeds stored in the Seed Vault, a seed preservation facility operated by the Korea National Arboretum. These NFTs will be issued on Upbit NFT. Owners of seed-based NFTs related to the project can naturally participate in the value of biodiversity conservation and recognize the importance of forests through events such as quizzes.
For NFT owners, the community function will be expanded to actively reflect participants' opinions, including deciding the direction of future projects through voting. Among the plant species issued as NFTs, some will be selected to establish offline plant conservation areas in cooperation with arboretums located near the plants' natural habitats. It is expected that the online project will connect to actual plant conservation activities, contributing to regional revitalization and biodiversity.
Lee Seok-woo, CEO of Dunamu, said, "This agreement is the starting point for Dunamu to actively utilize its technology to conserve biological resources, including trees, and to collaborate with various communities. Since NFTs and flora and fauna share the characteristic of being non-fungible, we will continue to do our best to fulfill our social responsibility from an environmental perspective."

Meanwhile, Dunamu has selected "Tree" as one of its ESG keywords and is leading efforts in environmental protection and forest restoration. From January to March this year, Dunamu issued NFTs to protect endangered plants in cooperation with the Korea National Arboretum, raising about 20 million KRW from sales and fees, which was fully donated to the endangered plant protection fund. In March, Dunamu conducted the "Forest of Recovery with Second Forest" campaign, where planting virtual trees resulted in actual trees being planted in wildfire-affected areas. In April, Dunamu donated 500 million KRW to support recovery from the wildfire damage in Gangneung.
