Two Weeks After the 'Seohyeon Station Incident', 227 Suspects Arrested for Knife-Related Crimes
During the special security operations conducted by the police following the 'Seohyeon Station stabbing' incident, it was revealed that the number of suspects caught for knife-related crimes exceeded 200 within two weeks.
The National Police Agency announced on the 21st that from the 4th to the 18th, they apprehended 227 suspects involved in knife-related crimes through inspections and searches, of whom 46 were detained. Among them, 20 were arrested on charges of attempted murder or preparation, and 113 were charged with violent offenses involving knives such as aggravated assault, threats, and battery.
At around 12:15 a.m. on the 16th in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, a 112 emergency call was received reporting a "man holding a knife with blood on his hand." Police who arrived at the scene arrested the man on the spot as he was wandering around holding a large knife and threatening, saying, "There is no one to cut today."
There were also multiple cases where mentally ill individuals wielded knives and were admitted for emergency hospitalization. On the 17th in Jeju, a 112 call reported "a father causing a disturbance with a knife," and police took emergency measures against a man who was threatening his wife and three children, saying, "Either someone dies or I die." On the 15th in Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk, a man who threatened his cousin with a knife and bit a responding police officer was arrested on the spot and taken for emergency hospitalization.

A total of 94 people who were simply found carrying knives during inspections and searches were issued fines under the Minor Offenses Act. There were also two cases where suspects were identified as illegal immigrants and handed over to the immigration office.
