Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch announced on the 21st that it will hold a Delvaux pop-up store under the theme "In the Name of Love" on the first floor, The Stage, until the 27th. This pop-up will showcase Ren? Magritte's iconic works and present the "Magritte Capsule Collection," launched exclusively in Asia by Delvaux to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Magritte's birth.
The Delvaux Magritte Capsule Collection is an Asia-exclusive line inspired by Ren? Magritte's artistic world, featuring four themes: love, humor, apples, and people.
Delvaux’s signature products, Brillant and Pin, are adorned with various embroideries such as "Amour," symbolizing the love between Ren? Magritte and his muse Georgette, and the playful phrase "Ceci n’est pas un Delvaux" ("This is not a Delvaux"), inspired by Magritte’s famous work "The Treachery of Images," which includes the well-known phrase "This is not a pipe."
The store design also draws attention. The space is decorated in sky blue, symbolizing the sky and clouds that Ren? Magritte often painted to express dreams. Iconic sculptures such as apples and roses, which appear only in his works like "The Son of Man" and "The Wrestlers' Tomb," are displayed as large objects for visitors to enjoy alongside the artworks.
Shinsegae Gangnam Branch plans to offer a special experience combining shopping and cultural art content through this pop-up. In 2020, Gangnam Branch created an art space exhibiting and selling over 200 pieces including paintings, art, and objects, introducing customers to a new shopping space where luxury and art meet.
Last year, it was the first in the industry to open a mezzanine featuring the "Mezzanine Gallery," showcasing works by renowned domestic and international artists including painter Kim Chang-ryeol, along with curation services. In June, a special outdoor exhibition by blue-chip artist Kim Woo-jin was held in the rooftop garden on the 11th floor, transforming the space into a place where people can experience culture and art in their daily lives.
