Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation Launches 3 Types of Public Interest Goods Made from Waste
The Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation announced on the 18th that it has launched three types of public interest goods (souvenirs) made from waste. These include a shoehorn made from plastic bottle caps, a flowerpot made from broken ceramics, and an air freshener made by combining used ice packs with herbs.
The public interest goods were planned and produced as part of the "Sure Action to Reduce Waste" campaign, which the landfill management corporation has been promoting since 2021 to reduce waste.
Collected bottle caps, broken ceramics, and used ice packs from employees and local residents were transformed into new products in collaboration with local social enterprises (Mariette), zero-waste stores (Sojung-han Modeun Geot), and pottery workshops (Anu) that are leading efforts to reduce landfill waste.
In particular, the used ice gel herb air freshener was realized based on the ideas of students from Inha University who won the grand prize at the "ESG Management Innovation Idea Contest." It was made by combining the gel component of used ice packs with rosemary herbs grown using waste heat from the Sudokwon Landfill Site.
The corporation plans to use the public interest goods as souvenirs for external promotion and sell some through crowdfunding, donating all proceeds to the local community.
