Gokseong-gun Wins 'Comprehensive Social Safety Award' at Transportation Social Safety Festival

Selection of Outstanding Local Governments, Organizations, Companies, and General Residents

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it won the 'Comprehensive Grand Prize in the Social Safety Division' at the 15th Gwangju-Jeonnam Transportation and Social Safety Festival.

The Gwangju-Jeonnam Transportation and Social Safety Festival is hosted by Gwangnam Ilbo, Gwangnam Ilbo Internet Newspaper, and others. At this festival, outstanding local governments, institutions, organizations, companies, and general citizens who have improved the traffic culture index and raised social safety awareness are selected and awarded.

Gokseong-gun successfully implemented safety culture campaign education and established a COVID-19 response system. In addition, various efforts such as pedestrian safety and traffic environment improvement projects centered on residents, and the establishment of a social safety net for disaster preparedness received high evaluations.

The county has continuously carried out various activities for the safety of its residents. These activities include safety culture campaigns, visiting safety education, and supporting stable living for residents affected by disasters through residents' safety insurance.

From the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, the county cooperated with related organizations within the jurisdiction to establish a response system to prevent the spread of infection and worked hard to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In addition, to recover the local economy stagnated due to COVID-19, recovery support funds were provided three times to all residents.

Furthermore, to create safe alleys, CCTV, emergency safety bells, and night lighting were installed, and projects to improve living conditions were carried out in 13 vulnerable villages.

In areas with heavy traffic, the latest traffic safety facilities such as roundabouts and smart crosswalks were also installed to continuously promote the safety of residents.

Moreover, to proactively respond to incidents, accidents, and disasters within the region, a safety management plan was established and a 24-hour integrated CCTV control center was operated. A dense social safety net was realized through the management of hazardous facilities within the jurisdiction and nighttime patrol activities in crime-prone areas.
