Over 2,700 Applicants for 4 Positions... Scheduled to Board T-50 and Others
The Air Force's selection competition for the '9th National Pilots' has recorded the highest rate ever. The final selected National Pilots will experience flight missions on domestically produced aircraft at the 'Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition 2023' (Seoul ADEX 2023) this October.
According to the Air Force on the 17th, 2,768 people applied for the National Pilot program, and 4 will be finally selected. The competition rate of 692 to 1 is the highest since the Air Force first selected National Pilots in 2007.
The Air Force plans to conduct a first round of document screening and a second round of in-depth interviews for applicants, followed by a third round of flight environment adaptation training at the Air Force Aerospace Medical Center. The flight environment training includes speed tolerance training (G-TEST) and emergency escape training.

Those finally selected will experience about one hour of flight missions on domestically produced aircraft operated by the Air Force, such as the T-50 and FA-50, at Seoul ADEX, which opens on October 17 at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. After the flight, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force will award the 'Red Muffler' (scarf), a symbol of Air Force pilots, and appoint them as National Pilots. Since 2007, the Air Force has selected National Pilots biennially, producing 37 individuals from various fields such as students, teachers, and nurses to date.
