Department of Military Science at Dongmyeong University Completes 'DMZ Peace Trail Grand March'
Seven students, including Lee Juhwan, a junior in the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University, participated in the "11th Korean Peninsula Reconciliation and Cooperation 2023 DMZ Peace Trail Expedition" and all completed the 320 km course.
This national march was organized by the Korea Freedom Federation and involved over 110 university students nationwide. They started on July 31 from the Unification Observatory in Goseong, Gangwon Province, and marched a total of 320 km over 8 nights and 9 days through Inje, Yanggu, Hwacheon, Cheorwon, Gyeonggi, Yeoncheon, Paju, and Imjingak.
Along with the march, participants took part in various programs including the departure ceremony and orientation, security lectures, visits to military units and GOP barbed wire fences, memorial visits, and team UCC video production and presentations.

View original imageFreshman student Yeom Jiwon said, “There were many times I wanted to give up due to the heatwave with a perceived temperature nearing 40℃, the long march course, blisters, and ankle injuries, but I did not quit because it was a valuable experience as an officer candidate.”
She added, “We relied on each other like one family and spent a truly meaningful and rewarding time together. I will challenge myself again next year.”
Professor Jung Dong of the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University said, “It was a time to establish a sense of national duty and security awareness and to unite with university students from across the country. It was a great opportunity to gain confidence with the spirit and passion of a prospective officer candidate who is Do-ing.”
Established in March 2014, the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University has achieved ▲ commissioning all graduates as officers (Army, Navy, Marine Corps) ▲ English education by native speakers ▲ the nation’s first ‘Drone Education Research Center’ among military science departments nationwide and support for excellent students to obtain national drone certification free of charge ▲ and the opening of a military research institute in August 2022.

For the 2024 academic year early admissions, the department has removed the minimum grade requirement to open the door of opportunity to more applicants. It is also actively conducting various cooperative activities through agreements with organizations such as the Korea Freedom Federation.
