Busan City Promotes Environmental Disease Prevention Project for Vulnerable Groups
Exposure to Vulnerable Indoor Environments, Targeting About 50 Vulnerable Households
Diagnosis of Environmental Harmful Factors Causing Environmental Diseases and Environmental Improvement
Recruitment of Subsidized Project Participants for I
Busan City will carry out the ‘Environmental Disease Prevention Project for Vulnerable Groups’ targeting about 50 vulnerable households by December.
This project measures and diagnoses six environmental harmful factors that cause environmental diseases such as atopy, asthma, and rhinitis in the residences of vulnerable groups: fine dust, mold, formaldehyde, total volatile organic compounds, and house dust mites, and improves the indoor environment.
The project mainly targets elderly living alone, low-income, and single-parent households, where health damage is a concern due to poor indoor environment management, with a budget of 100 million KRW from the resident participation budget.
To enhance the effectiveness of the project, it will be promoted in connection with the Ministry of Environment’s ‘Environmental Disease Prevention Project for Vulnerable Groups.’
In March, the city received recommendations for 118 vulnerable households from districts and counties and requested the Ministry of Environment to provide indoor environment diagnosis and consulting support for these households. When the consulting results come out around September, about 50 households requiring urgent improvement will be selected to carry out the project.
Customized indoor environment improvements such as wallpaper, flooring replacement, and paint coating will be supported, using eco-friendly materials that are almost free of harmful substances and harmless to the human body.
Additionally, eco-friendly materials will be supported through companies sponsoring the Ministry of Environment’s agreement.
Furthermore, the city will recruit subcontractors to participate in this improvement project until August 23.
Applicants can download the application form from the city’s website under the Notices and Announcements section, fill it out, and submit it. The final selection of contractors will be made through the local subsidy review committee.
