"Reward of 20 Million Won, Please Help Find It" What Kind of Watch Is It?
Finding Lost Items Sparks Buzz in Online Communities
A post by a netizen offering a reward of 20 million won for finding a lost luxury watch is gaining attention.
On the 10th, an online community, BobaeDream, featured a post titled ‘Lost Patek Watch (Reward 20 million won)’.
The author, Mr. A, began by saying, "I am seeking help because I lost a precious engagement watch."
He explained, "On the 8th, I lost a Patek Philippe watch, model 5146R, in Samseong-dong," adding, "It was kept in a leather travel case inside my backpack, but it seems to have been lost while I was taking out other items." Mr. A attached photos of the lost watch and the leather travel case to the post.
He said, "I am so flustered that I have lost my appetite," and added, "An investigation is currently underway, and I have also reported the loss to the Patek store."
He then requested, "If anyone has found it, please report it to the nearest police station or contact me directly."
He further stated, "I will provide a reward without revealing any personal information to the person who returns it," and "I will also offer the same reward to anyone who provides decisive information leading to the recovery of the watch." The reward amount Mr. A offered is 20 million won.
The large reward drew attention to the watch Mr. A lost. When one netizen asked, "Is it better than a Rolex?" another explained, "It’s like arriving in a Lamborghini and bragging about buying a car, while someone else steps down from a private jet."
The watch brand Patek Philippe, which Mr. A lost, is one of the world’s top five luxury Swiss watch brands with a history of 180 years.
Recognized as a work of art embodying craftsmanship, many parts are still made by artisans with 10 to 30 years of experience, and its annual production volume is only about 1/17th that of Rolex, making it extremely rare. Therefore, among the wealthy, Patek Philippe is considered a precious watch that one can only encounter through fate.
Patek Philippe watches start at several tens of millions of won even for the lowest-priced models. The model Mr. A lost is valued at about 80 million won, and on the luxury watch resale site 'Chrono24', the 2022 new model is reportedly traded at around 72 million won.
Lee Boo-jin, President of Hotel Shilla, also attracted attention last month on the 18th at an event held at Incheon Airport by wearing Patek Philippe’s ‘Pagoda’ women’s watch. The product she wore is a limited edition released in 1997, no longer sold, but traded in the secondhand market between 18 million and 60 million won.
In May, a Patek Philippe watch worn by Puyi (溥儀), the last emperor of China’s Qing Dynasty, was auctioned in Hong Kong for 6.7 billion won.
