'Bundang Stabbing Incident' Choi Won-jong Deemed 'Unfit' in Psychopath Evaluation
Two of Four Inspection Items Cannot Be Scored
Due to Cho Hyun-sung's Personality Disorder and Paranoia
Choi Won-jong (22), the perpetrator of the 'Bundang stabbing rampage' incident, was deemed 'unmeasurable' in the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) test.
On the 10th, the Forensic Science Division of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced that they conducted a psychopathy diagnosis test on Choi Won-jong from the 6th to investigate the motive and background of his crime, but concluded that it was impossible to determine whether he exhibited psychopathic tendencies.
The psychopathy diagnosis test quantifies personality traits of psychopaths such as coldness, impulsivity, lack of empathy, and irresponsibility. This test scores four areas: ▲interpersonal relationships ▲emotional problems ▲lifestyle ▲antisocial behavior. A score of 25 or higher out of 40 indicates psychopathy.
On the morning of the 10th, Choi Won-jong, the suspect in the 'Bundang stabbing rampage' incident that occurred on the 3rd, is being transferred from the Seongnam Sujeong Police Station detention center in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do to the prosecution.

In Choi Won-jong's case, it is known that he had previously been diagnosed with 'schizoid personality disorder (schizotypal personality disorder),' making it impossible to measure the two categories of 'interpersonal relationships' and 'emotional problems.' A police official explained, "Choi Won-jong was previously diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder, and currently, psychotic symptoms such as paranoia have been confirmed. Because of this, detailed scoring of the interpersonal and emotional problem items among the four psychopathy evaluation factors was not possible, making measurement unfeasible."
On the afternoon of the 3rd at 5:56 PM, Choi Won-jong is accused of driving a vehicle toward pedestrians in front of the AK Plaza department store in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, connected to Seohyeon Station on the Suin-Bundang Line, then exiting the vehicle and wildly wielding a weapon at citizens. As a result of Choi Won-jong's crime, one woman in her 60s who was hit by the vehicle died, 13 people were injured, and among them, one woman in her 20s is in a brain-dead state.
After the crime, during police interrogation, Choi Won-jong stated, "A certain organization is stalking me," and "I judged that many members of that organization would be at Seohyeon Station, so I committed the incident to make the organization known to the world."
Meanwhile, on the 10th, the police sent Choi Won-jong to the prosecution on charges of murder, attempted murder, and attempted preparation for murder.
