Haenam-gun Eases Payment Criteria for Direct Subsidies to Farmers of Strategic Crops Affected by Heavy Rain
Direct Payments Provided for Replanting and Supplementary Sowing Due to Heavy Rain Damage Including Nongkong
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) announced on the 7th that it will relax the cultivation compliance standards for strategic crops (rice beans, powdered rice, forage) to enable the payment of direct subsidies to farms damaged by recent heavy rains.
The existing compliance standards for strategic crop cultivation provided payments only if sowing, cultivation, and harvesting were completed normally. However, the standards have been relaxed so that direct subsidies will be paid if crop cultivation continues through reseeding or supplementary planting on farmland damaged by heavy rains.
In addition, if the sowing period is missed and the crop is switched or reseeding is difficult due to farmland loss, the decision on direct subsidy payment will be made after on-site verification.
However, the condition to maintain the production base for strategic crops excluding rice and green manure remains in effect. The payment unit price for strategic crop items will be applied as before, and for crops outside the strategic items such as mung beans and perilla, the original amount will be applied and paid.
Farms damaged by last month's heavy rains can submit supporting documents (damage photos, seed/seedling purchase records) and damage reports to the town or township office by the 31st. The direct subsidies will be paid around December after comprehensive evaluation with the compliance inspection results by agricultural inspectors.
Meanwhile, the application area for strategic crop direct subsidies in Haenam-gun is 7,863 hectares, and the damaged crops due to the heavy rains on the 15th and 16th of last month totaled 410 hectares, including 214 hectares of rice beans and 196 hectares of forage.
