Presidential Office: Police Deployed in 89 Areas Forewarned of Murder and Weapon Rampage

The Presidential Office announced on the 6th that in response to the recent series of stabbing rampages, "the police have deployed riot squads, special forces, and local police detectives to 89 areas where murder or stabbing rampage threats were reported."
Lee Do-woon, the spokesperson, stated at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office that afternoon, "I will briefly explain the information received from the National Police Agency regarding crimes in multi-use facilities," and made the announcement.
Spokesperson Lee explained, "There have been 442 inspections and searches of suspicious individuals, and among these, 14 cases involved actual charges leading to arrests, according to reports from the National Police Agency."
He added, "The police have selected 3,444 locations where crimes in multi-use facilities and other areas are a concern, and as of today, have deployed a total of 22,098 personnel from autonomous crime prevention and other cooperative organizations," he added.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, police SWAT team members were deployed to the scene near Seohyeon Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, where a random stabbing incident occurred.

When asked by reporters about the possibility of additional messages from President Yoon Seok-yeol regarding the stabbing rampage incidents, a Presidential Office official responded, "President Yoon has made statements about the stabbing rampage incidents before, but they were not well highlighted," adding, "On the 4th, immediately after the incident, President Yoon emphasized the deployment of security personnel for preventive measures and the carrying of effective suppression equipment, so the police have increased patrols and reinforced with armored vehicles and tasers."
Earlier, at a Cabinet meeting presided over on the 1st, President Yoon instructed regarding the Sillim Station stabbing rampage incident, "Thorough investigations and strong punishments must be swiftly carried out for heinous crimes," and "We must respond with a zero-tolerance policy to retaliatory crimes so that victims do not worry about revenge after offenders are released, and prevent such copycat crime attempts through prompt investigations."

Additionally, following the stabbing rampage incident at Seohyeon Station in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province on the 3rd, President Yoon instructed Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min the next day, saying, "The Seohyeon Station random stabbing rampage is a terror attack against innocent citizens," and "Since threatening messages have also been posted on social media (SNS), the government must respond by deploying security personnel for preventive measures and carrying effective and strong suppression equipment."
