"20s Mother Who Abandoned Newborn Baby in the Mountains Saying 'I Can't Raise It' Detained"
A woman in her 20s who abandoned her newborn baby in the mountains has been arrested.
According to the Changwon Seobu Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 6th, unmarried mother Ms. A is suspected of giving birth to baby B at a maternity hospital in Changwon on March 11, 2016, and then leaving the hospital 15 days later to abandon the baby in a nearby mountain forest.
Changwon City, while investigating unregistered births, reported to the police on the 5th that the whereabouts of the child could not be confirmed and requested a police investigation.
During the police investigation, Ms. A reportedly stated, "I committed the act because I was not confident in raising the child," and "It is true that I abandoned the child, but I did not kill her."
The police conducted searches at six locations pointed out by Ms. A as the abandonment sites but failed to find baby B.
The police applied attempted murder charges, judging that Ms. A had the intent to kill by abandoning baby B.
Ms. A is expected to be detained and handed over to the prosecution once the investigation is completed.

A police official said, "Ms. A could not accurately remember where she abandoned the child and changed her story several times. We conducted searches each time but could not find the child," adding, "At this point, there is no way to confirm the child's life or death."
