Minister Sang-min Lee Issues Emergency Directive on Heat-Related Illnesses at Jamboree
Organizing Committee Collaborates with Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeonbuk Province, and Others
Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Co-Chairman of the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree, announced on the 3rd that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety urgently instructed close cooperation with the Jamboree Organizing Committee, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeonbuk Province, and others to prepare and immediately implement measures in response to heat-related illnesses that occurred after the Jamboree opening ceremony held on the night of the 2nd.
The minister instructed to collaborate with medical staff to assess the current situation and prepare all possible measures such as adjusting the event program, increasing the number of ambulances, and introducing mobile hospitals based on the number and severity of heat-related illness patients and other injuries. He especially emphasized thorough preparation for various situations with the goal of ensuring that no severe illnesses or deaths occur.
Additionally, the operation status of heatwave mitigation facilities such as shaded rest areas and vine tunnels was to be promptly checked, and sufficient facilities to prevent heat-related illnesses, including additional air conditioners and shuttle buses, were to be provided.
Along with this, the heatwave response guidelines and procedures for responding to heat-related illness cases were to be repeatedly reviewed by relevant agencies and disseminated to related organizations to ensure swift and accurate response in case of accidents. Participants were also to be thoroughly informed about heatwave action guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses.
