Gokseong-gun Holds Midterm Report Meeting on Customized Happiness Indicator Development
Suggestions for the Development of Specialized Indicators Unique to Gokseong-gun
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) held an interim report meeting on the 1st under the local government goal of the 8th term, "A Happier Gokseong for Residents," to develop customized happiness indicators.
The report meeting was attended by about 50 people, including Lee Sang-cheol, Governor of Gokseong-gun, Yoon Young-gyu, Chairman of the Gokseong County Council, council members, and residents. The meeting involved receiving a progress report on the indicator development from Director Lee Jae-kyung of the National Gross Happiness Research Institute and collecting various opinions.
The county has previously held a roundtable discussion with about 50 residents in May to allow residents to directly shape the happiness indicators.
Additionally, from June to July, happiness interviews were conducted with about 170 residents by visiting towns and townships directly to understand residents' thoughts and perceptions about happiness.
The National Gross Happiness Research Institute conducted data analysis based on the collected materials.
They suggested the need to develop specialized indicators unique to Gokseong-gun in areas such as community integration, youth and adolescents who are not yet happy, women's happiness, the elderly, health, food, residential environment, and pride in the region.
Based on these suggestions, the county plans to complete the development of customized happiness indicators by early September.
Following this, the final indicators will be confirmed through various opinion-gathering processes, including a second roundtable discussion with residents, expert consultations, and a final report meeting.
A county official said, "We are listening to the voices of residents on-site and developing indicators based on them. We will do our best to develop indicators so that the residents' voices can become policies."
