Shinhan Card Launches Korea's First Data Integration Project to Support Jeju Tourism Policy Development
Collaboration Between Statistics Korea and SK Telecom... Private and Public Data Partnership
Combining Demographic, Floating Population, and Consumption Data
Shinhan Card, the first private company selected as a data-specialized institution, is launching its first data linkage project using pseudonymized information. By combining demographic data with various floating population information and consumption data, it plans to support research and development of tourism policies in Jeju Island.
Shinhan Card announced on the 2nd that it will carry out this data linkage project in collaboration with Statistics Korea and SK Telecom.
The project involves pseudonymously linking various demographic data such as population, households, and housing from Statistics Korea, floating population and mobile content usage information of 28 million SK Telecom customers, and regional, industry, and age-based consumption data of 31 million Shinhan Card customers, and providing it to the Jeju Tourism Organization.
Statistics Korea and the Jeju Tourism Organization plan to analyze data on various topics such as ▲one-month living study in Jeju Island ▲forecasting demand for silver tourists ▲tourism pattern research by household type, contributing to the development of Jeju's tourism industry. A Shinhan Card representative explained, "This case is an experimental research example of pseudonymized linkage between public and private data," adding, "It will serve as a cornerstone for national development research in various fields in the future."
Additionally, Shinhan Card will support the development of alternative credit evaluation models by pseudonymously linking 44 million credit data from Korea Credit Bureau (KCB) and financial fraud-related data from the financial fraud prevention platform 'The Cheat.' Through this, the strategy is to include financially marginalized groups with medium to low credit ratings into the formal financial system.
Designated as the first private data-specialized institution by the Financial Services Commission, Shinhan Card has already established a dedicated website for data-specialized institutions to enable safe and convenient use of pseudonymized data linkage and adequacy evaluation services for data linkage requesting organizations. Furthermore, it plans to expand cooperation with specialized data business companies in data analysis, consulting, systems, and solutions to discover and utilize data value, providing a one-stop service.
