Ulsan City Declares Joint Cooperation Among Leading Investment Companies for Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex Development

A public-private joint cooperation declaration will be held for the successful establishment of the Ulsan Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex.
Ulsan City announced that on the 31st at 3 p.m., it will hold the ‘Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex Investment Joint Cooperation Declaration Ceremony’ at the City Hall Citizen Hall.
About 100 people, including Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, Kim Ki-hwan, Chairman of the City Council, officials from innovation support organizations, and investment-leading companies, will attend this event. It is organized to strengthen the commitment between Ulsan City and investment-leading companies for the successful promotion of the ‘National Advanced Strategic Industry Secondary Battery Specialized Complex’ designated on the 20th.
The event will proceed with △Awarding of Meritorious Service Awards △Signing of Investment Cooperation Agreement for the Specialized Complex Development △Announcement of Joint Investment Cooperation Declaration △Presentation of Ulsan City’s Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex Development Strategy △Panel Discussion.
Meritorious Service Awards will be given to eight people, including three secondary battery investment-leading companies who actively worked on the designation of the advanced secondary battery specialized complex and five employees from innovation support organizations, receiving commendations from the Mayor of Ulsan.
The signing of the investment cooperation agreement for the specialized complex development will include two companies, Inchems Co., Ltd. and Cosmo Chemical Co., Ltd., which are part of the existing 13 investment-leading companies, and five companies expressing new investment intentions: Korea BTS Co., Ltd., Next Square Co., Ltd., Sail Jeonggi Co., Ltd., Eco Chemical Co., Ltd., and CTR Mobility, totaling seven companies.
These companies, specializing in secondary battery materials and recycling, have pledged additional investments worth approximately 700 billion KRW in the advanced secondary battery specialized complex.
The announcement of the joint investment cooperation declaration for the advanced secondary battery specialized complex will involve 19 organizations from industry, academia, research, and government, including eight innovation support organizations such as Ulsan City, University of Ulsan, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Institute of Energy Research, Ulsan Technopark, Korea Testing & Research Institute, Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, and Ulsan Institute, as well as 11 investment-leading companies including Samsung SDI, Korea Zinc Co., Ltd., Daehan Petrochemical Co., Ltd., and Cosmo Chemical Co., Ltd.
Ulsan City’s advanced secondary battery specialized complex development strategy consists of five major strategic tasks and 13 core detailed projects. The five strategic tasks are △Establishment of full-cycle support infrastructure △Securing ultra-competitive technology through R&D △Creation of a complex cooperation zone △Building a cooperative system among material, component, and battery manufacturing companies △Improvement of regulatory systems.
Following the strategy presentation, a panel discussion with experts from various fields will be held. Ulsan City plans to actively reflect the diverse opinions presented during the discussion in the ‘Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex Development Promotion.’
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, said, “With site acquisition, tax deductions, and commercialization support following the designation of the advanced secondary battery specialized complex, corporate investment in Ulsan will accelerate further. Ulsan, which has opened the curtain as a global advanced secondary battery hub city, will do its best to support participating companies.”

Ulsan City’s designation as an ‘Advanced Secondary Battery Specialized Complex’ was decided at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s ‘3rd National Advanced Strategic Industry Committee’ on July 20. Ulsan will be developed as a future battery diversification hub city, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and all-solid-state battery development.
