At 7:03 a.m. that day, Chosun appeared in front of the police station to board a transport vehicle and responded "I'm sorry" to reporters' question, "Why did you do it?" He did not answer questions such as "Do you admit to premeditated crime? Since when did you plan it?" and headed to the transport vehicle.
Chosun is accused of wielding a weapon against unfamiliar men in their 20s and 30s near Exit 4 of Sillim Station on Seoul Subway Line 2 at 2:07 p.m. on the 21st. As a result of this incident, one man in his 20s died and three men in their 30s were injured.
Before handing Chosun over to the prosecution, the police intensified their final investigation to prove whether the crime was premeditated. The police received Chosun’s search records from a portal site and confirmed that he searched for terms such as "Hong Kong random murder," "forced hospitalization in psychiatric hospital," "escape from psychiatric hospital," and "psychiatric hospital hospitalization costs" in early last month. A police official said, "We received data from January to the present, and the search records were concentrated in early June, but there were no meaningful search records related to the incident this month."
The police also detected signs that Chosun damaged and reset the digital devices he used before the crime. Forensic analysis was conducted on the iPhone XS used by Chosun, but only browser records after 5:58 p.m. on the 20th were confirmed. Previous records were found to have been reset. The computer used at his home was also found to have been destroyed with a hammer.
After repeated attempts, the police also conducted a Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) test on Chosun. On the 25th, Chosun repeatedly agreed and refused, and once refused the test citing "complex emotions." After continued persuasion by the police, Chosun completed the diagnostic test on the 27th.
