Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, "Do Not Block the Establishment of the Space Aviation Agency, the Wish of 3.3 Million Residents"
Urgent Call for the National Assembly to Pass the Special Act on the Space Aviation Agency
As opposition party members consecutively boycotted the full meeting of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee, putting the goal of opening the Gyeongnam Aerospace Agency within the year on hold, Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, headed to the National Assembly once again.
Democratic Party lawmakers reportedly boycotted the meeting for the second day, claiming that the committee chair unilaterally set the meeting and other schedules.
According to Gyeongnam Province, Governor Park attended the full committee meeting on the 27th and once again requested the prompt passage of the "Special Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Aerospace Agency" in the National Assembly.

He sharply stated, "The establishment of the Aerospace Agency is not an option but a necessity in the national development strategy," adding, "Opposing this is obstructing the realization of a space powerhouse Korea and directly contradicts the people's wishes."
He said, "If the special act passes the National Assembly as per the government's proposal, subordinate laws will be enacted, and the Aerospace Agency is expected to be established this year by the residents," but added, "There has been no discussion about the Aerospace Agency in the National Assembly, causing great disappointment among residents and serious concerns about its establishment."
He continued, "Aerospace technology is a core element of future strategies for national security decisions," emphasizing, "The entire nation is expecting Korea to swiftly leap forward as a space powerhouse through the establishment of the Aerospace Agency to realize the space economy vision."

He also said, "If the timing for establishing the Aerospace Agency is missed, it will betray the people's aspirations toward becoming a space powerhouse and hinder national development."
Governor Park said, "The 3.3 million residents of Gyeongnam are eagerly awaiting the day the Aerospace Agency opens with hope that it will revive the stagnant regional economy and lead the vision of a space powerhouse," adding, "I sincerely hope to invite ruling and opposition committee members of the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee within this year to hold the opening ceremony of the Aerospace Agency together with the residents."
He added that they are conducting a feasibility study for the creation of an aerospace complex city, including the selection of temporary and main office sites for the Aerospace Agency and establishing mid- to long-term conditions for research personnel settlement.
He said, "I hope the committee members will unite their efforts to pass the special act so that the Aerospace Agency, which will lead Korea's leap as a space powerhouse and the global space economy era, will be established promptly in Gyeongnam."
Following the committee meeting, Governor Park met separately with Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, and Park Kwang-on, floor leader of the Democratic Party, requesting cross-party cooperation for the passage of the Aerospace Agency special act in the National Assembly.
