Kim Hyung-mi, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Criticizes Administration for Approving Partial Demolition of Hwajeong I-Park
Kim Hyung-mi, a member of the Seo-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, criticized the Seo-gu Office's complacent administration for approving the demolition plan of Hwajeong I-Park without consulting the prospective residents during a 5-minute speech at the 1st plenary session of the 313th extraordinary meeting on the 19th.
Councilor Kim pointed out, “At the Hwajeong I-Park demolition plan press briefing on the 11th, Hyundai Development Company changed their statement from ‘demolishing all 8 buildings’ to ‘the above-ground residential parts of all 8 buildings,’ which is a deception of the residents and an extremely irresponsible remark.”
She also explained, “Since last year, the Seo-gu Office has exchanged official documents with Hyundai Development Company several times and was aware that commercial and neighborhood facilities were excluded from the demolition targets of Hwajeong I-Park.”
She then criticized, “Approving the demolition plan based solely on the remarks of the Hyundai Development Company representative without even confirming with the Hwajeong I-Park residents is a complacent administration by the Seo-gu Office,” adding, “I question whether the unusually established ‘I-Park Accident Response Support Team’ is fulfilling its role to ensure a safe society.”
Finally, she requested, “Through this incident, I hope the Seo-gu Office reassesses its safety awareness and devises measures to restore the broken trust in its administration.”
