Yeosu City, 13.32 Million Tourists in the First Half of the Year
Strengthening Domestic and International Promotional Marketing, Focusing on Stay-Type Tourists, etc.
Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do announced that although the number of visitors to the Yeosu area in the first half of this year slightly increased compared to the previous year, it has been on a declining trend since May, and the city is stepping up efforts to attract tourists during the peak season.
According to Yeosu City on the 17th, analysis of tourism big data shows that the cumulative number of visitors in the first half of this year was 13.32 million, a 9.5% increase compared to 12.17 million visitors in the first half of last year.
Also, as of June this year, the total number of visitors to major tourist attractions was 5.29 million, an increase of about 170,000 (3.4%) compared to 5.11 million last year.
However, the monthly number of visitors rose from February to April but has been declining since May.
This is analyzed as a decrease in domestic tourists due to increased demand for overseas travel and is expected to continue during the summer vacation season.
Accordingly, Yeosu City plans to continue the upward trend in attracting tourists by preparing various measures to attract tourists during the peak summer season in July and August.
First, domestic and international promotional marketing will be further strengthened in July and August. Utilizing influencers for fam tours and producing promotional videos and TV programs, the city will actively attract not only domestic tourists but also foreign tourists through advertisements in Vietnam’s VietJet airline magazine and overseas TV commercials.
In addition, based on abundant tourism resources such as islands and the sea, efforts will be made to attract stay-type tourists. Since June, the city has been promoting the ‘Namdo Accommodation Discount BIG Event,’ providing accommodation cost support to residents outside Jeollanam-do and Gwangju who use local lodging facilities, and will continue the ‘Group Tourist Attraction Compensation Support’ project.
Furthermore, responding to the growth of domestic and international nighttime tourism, the city will promote nighttime tourism development projects and focus on developing new customized tourist content centered on demand. At the same time, campaigns to eradicate overcharging and promote friendly service, along with stable price management, will create an environment where tourists can enjoy Yeosu with peace of mind.
A city official said, “As demand for overseas travel increases, it is expected to have a significant impact on the local tourism industry. We will enhance tourism competitiveness by swiftly responding to changing tourism demands and continue to uphold Yeosu’s reputation as a representative ‘marine tourism resort city’ of Korea.”
