Thrown stones to trap wife in the sea... Husband's 'murder charge' arrest warrant issued
A man in his 30s who was arrested on charges of killing his wife in the waters off Jamjindo, Incheon, reportedly pushed his wife into the sea and then threw stones to prevent her from coming back up, according to police investigations.
On the 17th, the Incheon Coast Guard announced that they had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A (30) on suspicion of murder.
Mr. A is accused of pushing his wife, Ms. B, also in her 30s, into the sea from the Jamjindo breakwater in Deokgyo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon, around 2:40 a.m. on the 15th, and then throwing stones to prevent her from surfacing, resulting in her death.
After the crime, Mr. A reported to 119, disguising the incident as an accident by saying, "My wife fell into the sea and is drifting away."
However, the Coast Guard detected suspicious circumstances through on-site inspection, mobile phone records, and CCTV footage, and arrested Mr. A on the afternoon of the 15th on charges of murder.
The CCTV footage captured Mr. A repeatedly hitting Ms. B’s head and face with stones nearby or throwing stones at her. Actual bruises and bloodstains consistent with stone impacts were found on the head area of Ms. B’s body.
Initially, Mr. A denied the crime but eventually confessed. In police questioning, he stated, "I committed the crime because I thought it was no longer possible to live together due to ongoing conflicts with my wife."
Investigations revealed that Mr. A had lured Ms. B into his vehicle by suggesting they go camping and fishing, then went to Jamjindo.
An official from the Incheon Coast Guard said, "We are conducting a thorough investigation to clearly determine the motive behind Mr. A’s crime."
