Shim Deok-seop, Gochang County Governor, Conducts Emergency On-Site Inspection of Riverside and Underground Parking Lot

In Jeollabuk-do Gochang-gun, where up to 125mm of heavy rain fell over two days, Shim Deok-seop, the governor of Gochang-gun, visited sites along the riverside to inspect the response to the heavy rain.

According to Gochang-gun on the 14th, a heavy rain warning has been in effect since 2 a.m., and the cumulative rainfall (from the 13th to the 14th, as of 6 a.m.) recorded 125.5mm in Asan-myeon, 120.5mm in Gong-eum-myeon, and 119mm in Mujang-myeon, averaging 110mm.

Governor Shim checked the control status of the walking paths around Gochangcheon at 6:30 a.m. immediately after attending a video conference of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, and visited sites where flood barriers were being installed at low-lying apartments and underground parking lots.

Governor Shim said, “Gochangcheon basically has a shallow depth and a narrow river width, so even a slight increase in inflow volume causes rapid swelling and flooding,” and urged, “We ask residents to comply well with the entry restrictions.”

He then visited the Jujincheon site in Asan-myeon. Water was rushing fiercely just below the bridge leading into the village. Jujincheon suffered significant damage in the summer of 2020 when part of the embankment was washed away due to flooding.

Governor Shim Deok-seop emphasized, “Due to continuous heavy rain, there are concerns about safety accidents and casualties caused by river flooding and inundation,” and stressed, “Please closely monitor weather conditions such as heavy rain and conduct pre-inspections of risk factors such as bridge controls.”
