Ildong Bioscience Obtains FDA GRAS Certification
Ildong Pharmaceutical Group's health functional food business affiliate, Ildong Bioscience, announced on the 13th that it has obtained the 'GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)' certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its probiotic raw materials. The GRAS certification is a system in which the FDA recognizes certain substances as safe for use as food ingredients.
The probiotic raw materials that received certification this time are two types: ▲Lactobacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201 and ▲Bifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301. They are used as functional materials in various products, including health functional foods related to gut health.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201 is a type of lactic acid bacteria independently developed by Ildong Bioscience. It is registered in patents related to ▲immune regulation, ▲inhibition of Helicobacter pylori and vaginitis-causing bacteria, and ▲vitamin (B1) production. Bifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301 is registered in patents related to ▲body fat reduction in humans and ▲obesity improvement in companion animals, and related clinical research and commercialization are continuously being pursued.

An official from Ildong Bioscience said, “Through the FDA GRAS certification, we have proven the quality and safety of our probiotic raw materials,” adding, “In addition to GRAS certification, we are enhancing competitiveness by meeting market-specific requirements such as Health Canada NHP registration and Indonesia Halal certification.” They also stated, “We plan to actively enter overseas markets based on differentiated raw materials and ingredients, as well as locally tailored strategies.”
