Police to Conduct Special Crackdown on Drunk Driving for 6 Weeks Starting July 14 During Summer Vacation Season
The National Police Agency announced on the 13th that it will conduct a special crackdown on drunk driving for six weeks starting from the 14th to coincide with the summer vacation season.
Under the supervision of the National Police Agency, a nationwide simultaneous crackdown will be conducted once a week, while each city and provincial police agency will conduct crackdowns in their jurisdictions at least twice a week.

According to the National Police Agency, 35 people died in drunk driving traffic accidents during July and August last year, and among them, 7 people (20%) had accidents on Fridays.
Unannounced crackdowns will be conducted in areas where drunk driving is a concern during the vacation season, such as school zones, entertainment districts, busy downtown areas, and highway toll gates (TG) and entrances/exits.

A National Police Agency official said, "Intensive crackdowns will be conducted regardless of day or night," adding, "Passengers in drunk driving vehicles will also be punished for aiding and abetting, and drunk driving vehicles may be confiscated or seized."
