Dong-A University Professors Heonsang Lee and Sunhee Lee Receive 'Outstanding Science and Technology Paper Award'
Professor Heonsang Lee of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Professor Sunhee Lee of the Department of Fashion Design at Dong-A University received the ‘33rd Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award’ from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).
The ‘Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award’ by KOFST is given to outstanding researchers who have contributed to national development and welfare enhancement through rigorous evaluation of papers recommended by over 400 science and technology-related societies. It recognizes excellence across all fields of science and engineering, including natural sciences, engineering, agriculture and fisheries, and health.
The award ceremony was held recently at the Korea Science and Technology Center during the ‘1st World Korean Scientists and Engineers Convention,’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by KOFST.
Professor Heonsang Lee received the award in the engineering category for his research paper on ‘Rheological Theory and Testing on Morphological Simulation of Carbon Composites,’ recommended by the Korean Society of Rheology.
Professor Sunhee Lee was awarded in the comprehensive category for her research paper on ‘Characteristics of 3D Printed Wrist Guards with Re-entrant Patterns at Various Inclination Angles Using Thermoplastic Elastomers,’ recommended by the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles.
Professor Heonsang Lee’s research interprets microstructural changes in the processing flow of carbon composites used in electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and battery electrodes through tensor differential equation rheological theory, positioning him as a leading researcher in the field of carbon composites.
He stated, “As domestic research capabilities and conditions are closing the gap with global standards, I will continue to strive to lead both domestically and internationally in related research fields.”
Professor Sunhee Lee developed a 3D printing technology-based wrist guard with a Re-entrant pattern design that has shock-absorbing performance using thermoplastic elastomers, which are also used as artificial skin materials.
She said, “I want to share this joy with the researchers in the Fashion Materials Laboratory. Moving forward, I will continue creative research activities on 3D printing manufacturing within the fashion industry and challenge myself in developing smart healthcare products.”

He has received the LG Group R&D Award, IR52 Jang Young-sil Award, and NET National New Technology Certification, and developed theories and testing methods related to carbon nanotube morphology. He also served as a project leader for an international standards organization (ISO) composed of experts from 33 countries for over 10 years and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the SCIE journal Polymer G.
Professor Sunhee Lee joined Dong-A University in 2009, focusing on research related to materials and manufacturing processes for 3D printing, and founded a venture company in 2017. In 2019, she conducted research on ‘Manufacturing Functional Auxetic Pattern/Textile Composites for Footwear Based on CFDM 3D Printing Technology.’
