Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Attends District Mayor's Cup 'Taekkyeon' Tournament
Mapo-gu Holds ‘Taekkyeon’ Competition Registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, attended the ‘Mapo-gu Mayor’s Cup Taekkyeon Competition’ held at the Mapo-gu Community Sports Center on the morning of the 8th.
Taekkyeon is a Korean Important Intangible Cultural Property and the world’s first martial art registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. This year marked the first time the Mapo-gu Mayor’s Cup Taekkyeon Competition was held.
The competition was co-hosted by Mapo-gu, the Mapo-gu Sports Council, and the Mapo-gu Taekkyeon Association (President Jeong Young-hwa), with about 200 participants from five Taekkyeon clubs ranging from kindergarteners to general adults competing until 6 p.m.
