Suncheon-si, Positive Response to Senior Health Voucher Support Project

Support for Beauty and Haircare Costs in Voucher Format

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that the ‘Senior Health Voucher’ support project, which is being promoted to improve the health of the elderly and revitalize the neighborhood economy, is receiving great responses.

The Senior Health Voucher project is a system in which Suncheon City has been providing vouchers for bathing and beauty services costing 10,000 KRW per month and up to 120,000 KRW annually to seniors aged 80 and above since January last year. The vouchers can only be used at businesses registered as affiliated stores.

To support more seniors with vouchers, the city partially amended the ‘Suncheon City Ordinance on Senior Health Voucher Support for Maintaining Dignity’ at the end of last year and expanded the support target this year to include those receiving home care benefits under the Long-Term Care Insurance Act for the Elderly.

This year, the goal for the Senior Health Voucher support is 10,500 people, and as of the end of June, 10,044 seniors, accounting for 95.7% of this year’s target, have already been issued and used the health vouchers.

Furthermore, with active interest and participation from local bathing and beauty businesses, 348 stores (16 bathing, 29 hairdressing, 303 beauty) have registered as affiliated stores, and inquiries and registrations continue to increase steadily.

Voucher applications can be made from the month in which the applicant turns 80 years old. The senior or their guardian (direct blood relatives and spouses of direct blood relatives) must bring identification and other required documents to the administrative welfare center of their registered address.

A representative from Suncheon City’s Senior Welfare Division said, “We hope the voucher support will bring vitality to the seniors’ later lives,” and added, “We will make further efforts to secure affiliated stores so that seniors can use the vouchers comfortably.”
