Gyeonggi-do Expands Rest Areas for Mobile Workers Including Delivery Drivers to 32 Locations
Gyeonggi Province will increase the number of 'rest shelters for mobile workers' such as delivery drivers to 32 locations by 2026. Currently, there are 13 rest shelters for mobile workers within the province. An additional 7 shelters are being established.
Mobile workers are those who work for platforms, including delivery or courier drivers and private tutoring teachers. Due to the nature of their work involving frequent movement, their rest times are irregular and there are no designated rest areas, making the creation of rest shelters necessary. In particular, because their work requires spending long hours outdoors, they are vulnerable to heatwaves.
The rest shelters for mobile workers provided by Gyeonggi Province offer a comfortable indoor temperature and provide drinking water to help cool down. Educational programs for workers are also operated.
Gyeonggi Province, which operates the largest number of rest shelters for mobile workers nationwide with 13 locations, is currently adding container-type temporary rest shelters in seven areas: Yongin, Seongnam, Ansan, Namyangju, Icheon, Guri, and Gwangmyeong.
By 2026, the province plans to create 12 more temporary rest shelters for mobile workers. If this is achieved, the total number of rest shelters in the province will increase to 32.
