Focused Treatment and Management of Severe Dementia... Enhancement of Medical Welfare
Jeonju City Nursing Hospital has been designated as the first Dementia Safe Hospital in the Jeonbuk region, providing more specialized dementia care services for dementia patients.
On the 4th, Jeonju City announced that Jeonju City Nursing Hospital is the first public nursing hospital in the Jeonbuk area to be designated as a Dementia Safe Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
A Dementia Safe Hospital is a hospital equipped with personnel, facilities, and equipment to professionally treat and manage dementia patients who exhibit behavioral and psychological symptoms such as violence and delusions that are difficult to care for at home. A total of 15 hospitals have been designated, including 11 public nursing hospitals nationwide such as Jeonju City Nursing Hospital and the privately operated Wonkwang Hyodo Nursing Hospital (Iksan), which was designated this time.
The city invested a total budget of 1.8 billion KRW, including national and city funds, to remodel the 96-bed second and third floors of the main building of Jeonju City Nursing Hospital into a specialized dementia ward as part of the Dementia Safe Hospital designation, a pledge project to realize the vibrant welfare of the 8th municipal administration.
In particular, dementia-friendly facilities and equipment were established to ensure the safety and efficient care of dementia patients, including single rooms for intensive treatment of patients with behavioral and psychological symptoms, a dedicated program room for dementia patients within the ward, counseling rooms, and psychological stabilization rooms.
Additionally, to provide more professional and systematic dementia-related medical services such as diagnosis, treatment, and nursing care, the city assigned specialized personnel to Jeonju City Nursing Hospital, including neurosurgeons, dementia specialist nurses, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, and social workers.
