Changnyeong-gun to Hold Academic Symposium on 'The Hidden History of Gaya in Changnyeong'
Revealing the Archaeological Achievements of the Bihwa Gaya Site
Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will hold an academic symposium titled "The Hidden History of Gaya in Changnyeong" at Gyeonghwa Hall from 1 p.m. on the 7th, in collaboration with the Gyeongnam Research Institute.
Changnyeong is home to numerous Hidden Gaya relics centered around the Gyodong and Songhyeon-dong tumulus clusters, which are being considered for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage registration. This academic symposium was planned to reveal the archaeological achievements related to the Hidden Gaya relics within Changnyeong-gun.
The academic symposium will proceed with four thematic presentations followed by a comprehensive discussion. The presentations will be in the following order: ▲ Construction and landscape formation of the Gyodong and Songhyeon-dong tumulus clusters in Changnyeong (Kim Jong-il, Seoul National University) ▲ Current status of investigations and review of burial customs of Changnyeong tumulus clusters (Choi Young-jun, Changnyeong County Office) ▲ Characteristics of Hidden Gaya iron culture based on iron production-related artifacts (Lee Chun-seon, National Gimhae Museum) ▲ Review of pottery excavated in the Changnyeong area (Shin Kang-ho, Korea National Park Service).
After the presentations, a comprehensive discussion will be led by the chair, Professor Lee Sung-joo of Kyungpook National University. Researchers of Gaya history participating in the discussion include Kang Dong-seok (Dongguk University), Oh Jae-jin (Gyeongnam Research Institute), Sung Jeong-yong (Chungbuk National University), Ha Seung-cheol (Gaya Tumulus Cluster World Heritage Registration Promotion Team), and Lee Dong-hee (Inje University).

On the morning of the 8th at 10:30 a.m., an open event will be held at the precise excavation site of the Gyesong Tumulus Cluster, currently being investigated by the Gyeongnam Research Institute. Anyone visiting the site can attend both the academic symposium and the open field event.
