Segiritec Signs Industrial Battery Processing Contract with Samsung Electronics... Enters UPS Battery Recycling Sector
Segiritec, a 100% subsidiary of KPS and a specialist in secondary battery recycling, has entered the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery recycling market. The consignor is Samsung Electronics.
According to KPS, Segiritec has signed a consignment contract with Samsung Electronics for the collection, transportation, and disposal of industrial batteries. Segiritec will now be able to recycle secondary waste batteries discharged from seven Samsung Electronics nationwide sites, including Giheung, Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek.
The industrial batteries discharged from Samsung Electronics are used in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), which allow servers to continue operating even when power is cut off due to outages or fires. UPS batteries store power in advance and supply it when needed.
UPS batteries are especially essential for the operation and increased uptime of data centers, which serve as infrastructure facilities for vast corporate information storage. These centers consist of communication devices such as routers and servers, and stable power supplies like UPS. It is expected that lithium-ion batteries will increasingly replace lead-acid batteries.
Kim Minhong, CEO of Segiritec, stated, "Most UPS batteries are still lead-acid batteries, but lithium-ion batteries have been rapidly spreading over the past two years. Since we are preparing a recycling business for lithium batteries used in electric vehicles, we have seized an opportunity to expand our business territory into the industrial battery market."
