Won Hee-ryong Visits Last Year's 'Flood Damage' Site for Preventive Inspection
On the afternoon of the 2nd, Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited the site that experienced flooding damage last year and urged officials to prepare for summer disasters and accidents.
On the same day, Minister Won visited the escalator inspection site at Gwangmyeong Station in Gyeonggi Province and received a report on the restoration results of the elevator equipment that was flooded last year. He also heard about the inspection plan for the escalator reverse operation accident at Sunae Station on the Bundang Line that occurred on the 8th of last month.
Minister Won said, "Since most of the elevators and escalators at Gwangmyeong Station were once flooded, there is always a possibility of problems occurring. Therefore, I hope that thorough inspections will be conducted, and if there are any defective parts, bold measures such as immediate replacement of components should be taken."
Regarding the escalator accident at Sunae Station, Minister Won said, "This is a typical human-caused accident that could have been prevented during the pre-inspection stage," adding, "Since citizens feel uneasy even in their daily lives such as commuting, please carefully check every small issue to prevent such incidents from recurring."
Following this, Minister Won visited the flood prevention construction site at Geumcheon-gu Office Station, sequentially inspecting the earth embankment, sump pit, and drainage pump installation, and reviewed the track flooding status, prevention measures, and emergency response system from Korail.
