Democratic Party: "'Far-right YouTuber' Cabinet Reshuffle Tramples on Public Demand for Government Reform... Must Be Withdrawn"
Regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's appointment of ministers and vice ministers on the 29th of last month, the Democratic Party of Korea strongly criticized it on the 2nd, calling it "in a word, an 'extreme right-wing reshuffle, extreme right-wing YouTuber reshuffle.'"
Cho Jung-sik, the party's Secretary-General, held a press briefing that day and said, "They nominated a person obsessed with a hostile North Korea policy as the Minister of Unification, appointed a BBK political prosecutor who relied on power as the Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, and appointed an extreme right-wing YouTuber as the President of the National Human Resources Development Institute, responsible for training national public officials." He added, "This reshuffle tramples on the people's demand for government reform," and urged, "Immediately withdraw this 'extreme right-wing reshuffle.'"
Secretary-General Cho said, "Are they going to dismantle the Ministry of Unification, judge public interests by the standards of a political prosecutor, and turn the public service into an extreme right-wing arena by putting forward an extreme right-wing YouTuber?" He added, "This reshuffle is a declaration of giving up national unity and determinedly taking the path of an extreme right-wing regime." He further remarked, "It is suspicious to the extent that President Yoon seems to be claiming to be the leader of the Taegeukgi Unit."
The opposition points out that Professor Kim Young-ho of Sungshin Women's University, nominated as Minister of Unification, is unfit for the position due to his stance such as 'overthrowing the Kim Jong-un regime.' Also, Kim Hong-il, the new Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and a former prosecutor, faces criticism for effectively giving a clean bill of health while leading the investigation into former President Lee Myung-bak's alleged covert ownership of land in Dogok-dong and the BBK scandal in 2007.
