Daegu Seongseo Industrial Complex to Build Energy Self-Sufficiency Infrastructure with 31.3 Billion KRW Investment
KT and 7 Other Organizations Participate
'Transformation of Smart Green Industrial Complex'
Daegu City was finally selected in April for the ‘2023 Smart Green Industrial Complex Promotion Project,’ a public contest project led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, with the ‘Daegu Seongseo Industrial Complex Energy Self-Sufficient Infrastructure Construction and Operation Project,’ which involves building a renewable energy power plant and an integrated energy management system within the Seongseo Industrial Complex. On the 28th of last month, Daegu City, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, and the executing agency (KT Consortium) signed a business agreement.
This project, with a total investment of 31.3 billion KRW over three years until 2025, will be carried out in earnest from July 2023 by the KT Consortium, led by ‘KT’ as the main organization, and including eight institutions such as Daegu Technopark, Daegu Seongseo Industrial Complex Management Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Daedong Mobility, and CSTech.
Overview of the Infrastructure Development Project for Seongseo Industrial Complex.
View original imageThe main project contents include an investment of 15.6 billion KRW for building renewable energy infrastructure such as a hydrogen fuel cell power plant, 6.3 billion KRW for energy efficiency projects including support for replacing high-efficiency energy devices, 2.7 billion KRW for establishing eco-friendly mobility such as electric two-wheeler stations, and 4.6 billion KRW for building an integrated energy platform for efficient energy use and management and supporting companies’ RE100 initiatives.
Detailed projects include installing a hydrogen fuel cell power plant (2.31 MW) and building-integrated photovoltaic systems (500 kW), establishing eco-friendly electric two-wheeler stations using recycled batteries, supporting the replacement of low-efficiency energy devices with high-efficiency ones, managing power peaks using energy storage systems (ESS) to reduce electricity costs and ensure stable power usage, and providing energy diagnosis and consulting for companies. In particular, the integrated platform will link already established individual energy systems to build an energy carbon-neutral integrated platform specialized for the Seongseo Industrial Complex.
The Seongseo Industrial Complex consists of about 72% of buildings that are over 20 years old and mostly houses small and medium-sized enterprises. Through this project, it is expected to be transformed into an eco-friendly energy smart green industrial complex.

Choi Un-baek, Director of the Future Innovation Growth Office of Daegu City, said, “Once the project is completed, the aging Seongseo Industrial Complex will reduce greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy power generation and energy efficiency projects within the complex, and individual companies will reduce their energy costs. Furthermore, it will greatly help foster and attract energy companies.” He added, “We will complete the Seongseo Industrial Complex as a representative model of an eco-friendly smart energy leading industrial complex and expand it to other industrial complexes in the Daegu region.”
