Interpol cooperation confirms identity... local police punish parents
The culprit who made a threatening call to Incheon International Airport saying "I will load a bomb on the flight to Sydney" was revealed to be teenagers residing in Mongolia. Mongolian police announced that they plan to punish the parents instead of the minors involved.
According to the Incheon Airport Police Unit on the 29th, at around 10:40 a.m. on the 22nd, a threatening call in English was made to the Incheon Airport help desk saying, "I will load a bomb on the flight to Sydney. I am a terrorist." After receiving the report from Incheon Airport, the police began tracking the call and found that the origin of the call was Mongolia.
Subsequently, the police immediately requested international cooperation from Interpol and shared information with the Mongolian Police Agency, eventually identifying the culprits who made the threatening call. The culprits were two Mongolian teenagers, A (12) and B (13), residing in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. During police investigation, they stated, "We searched for Incheon Airport's phone number on Google Maps" and "We made the prank call out of curiosity." The Mongolian Police Agency decided to criminally punish the parents of A and B under the Disorderly Conduct Act, which corresponds to the Minor Offenses Act in South Korea, since A and B are minors.
