"AI will improve weather forecast accuracy"
Colin Murdoch, Chief Business Officer (CBO) of DeepMind, Google's artificial intelligence (AI) division, predicted that AI will help humanity respond to climate change.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV on the 28th (local time), he stated, "We are using AI to predict the weather more accurately, which will help communities and businesses around the world adapt to increasingly extreme climates."
CBO Murdoch said that AI has the potential to accelerate innovations that will change the world, such as advanced meteorological models. He forecasted that AI could improve the accuracy of weather forecasts and climate predictions, thereby helping to effectively respond to climate change.
There are also observations that AI can optimize energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier, President Biden mentioned the dual nature of AI on the 20th, predicting that AI would help solve diseases and respond to climate change.
CBO Murdoch also predicted that AI will make significant contributions in the medical field. He recently participated in a technology conference held in Toronto, Canada, and highly praised the medical collaboration between Google DeepMind and the University of Toronto. He revealed that AI is being used to enhance understanding of proteins within the human body as part of efforts to advance treatments for liver cancer.
Regarding AI regulation, CBO Murdoch acknowledged the need for regulation but emphasized that it should be cautious.
He said, "AI is an extremely powerful technology that requires special attention," but also added, "We need to spend a lot of time thinking about the most effective regulations." He further stated, "Regulations must allow innovation in AI."
