Seodaemun-gu Increases Resident Interest in District Administration for Regional Development
Holds Briefing Session on Current Projects to Communicate with Residents on the First Anniversary of the 8th Elected Term
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) held a briefing session on current projects on the morning of the 27th at the Seodaemun Cultural and Sports Center Grand Theater, targeting general residents, community leaders, and representatives of professional organizations.
The event was organized to share the achievements of the district administration over the first year of the 8th elected term, introduce future plans, and enhance residents' understanding and interest in district governance.
In his presentation titled "One Year of Preparation for a Leap, Three Years for Change and Innovation," Mayor Lee Seongheon outlined the achievements and challenges in areas such as ▲ Vibrant Economic Coexistence ▲ Education and Culture Portal ▲ Lifelong Companion Life Care ▲ Seoul’s Central City ▲ Realization of a Top Residential City.
He also explained this year’s key initiatives, including regional development by zones, revitalization of commercial districts and job creation, establishment of an advanced welfare system, and the establishment of internal and external communication administration.
The mayor acknowledged limitations experienced over the past year, such as the restricted authority of basic local governments, time constraints for project completion, and challenges in gathering opinions from all residents.
He added that these difficulties will be overcome through close consultations with the government and Seoul city, more consistent and reliable project implementation, and increased efforts to resolve conflicts.
Looking ahead to the next three years, Mayor Lee identified priority projects including strengthening brand identity by the four major commercial districts, rapid regional development, transportation infrastructure construction, creation of a cultural hub in Sindaehak-ro, and promotion of the Life Care Master Plan. He emphasized achieving resident-experienced growth through sincere execution and tangible changes. Following the mayor’s presentation, a session for listening to residents’ opinions and Q&A was held.
At the briefing, the ‘Seodaemun-gu Policy Advisory Committee’ positively evaluated the 8th elected term’s efforts such as ‘active attempts to maintain ongoing communication with local sites,’ ‘systematization of Seodaemun-style customized life care services,’ and ‘establishment of a long-term urban planning master plan,’ while highlighting the need for a ‘Seodaemun brand reputation enhancement strategy.’
Additionally, results from a survey conducted by Research & Research on 1,000 Seodaemun residents (June 14?19) were announced, showing that 67% responded they were ‘satisfied’ with the district administration during the 8th elected term.
The highest satisfaction by sector was found in projects such as Sinchon and Ewha commercial district revitalization (economy), Career and Academic Guidance Center support (education and culture), customized life care services (welfare), promotion of a landmark in the northwest area (urban development), and vehicle traffic on Yonsei-ro (residential environment), indicating strong resident satisfaction with life-oriented projects.
