Operation of Cargo Truck Rest Area in Ungdong Hinterland Complex at Busan New Port Starts on 27th
Securing Parking for 794 Vehicles
Alleviating Parking Shortage in Sinhang Area
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) will officially begin operating the cargo truck rest area within the Ungdong hinterland of Busan New Port starting June 27.
The Ungdong cargo truck rest area will start operations 14 months after breaking ground in April 2022, following the implementation agreement signed between BPA and SK Energy in January 2021.
The site covers an area of 74,864㎡ and can accommodate a total of 794 vehicles.
With the continuous increase in cargo volume at Busan New Port, the traffic of cargo trucks has also risen, leading to ongoing concerns about the shortage of parking spaces within the port hinterland. The opening of the Ungdong cargo truck rest area is expected to significantly alleviate this issue.
Currently, the New Port hinterland has a total parking capacity of 2,385 vehicles, including three cargo truck rest areas?one of which is the newly opened Ungdong cargo truck rest area?and one temporary cargo truck parking lot.
In addition to parking, the Ungdong cargo truck rest area is equipped with a gas station, maintenance facilities, various convenience amenities, and rest facilities, which BPA explains will also contribute to improving the welfare of cargo truck drivers.
