May 26, 5 PM at Jagalchi Market, Vice Mayor An Byeong-yun Chairs 'District Deputy Mayor and County Governor Meeting'
Providing Scientific and Objective Information, Active Communication... Alleviating Citizen Anxiety and Minimizing Regional Economi
Busan City, together with its 16 districts and counties, is launching an all-out effort to ensure seafood safety management and promote consumption.
On the 26th at 5 p.m., Busan City will hold the “June District and County Deputy Mayor Meeting” chaired by Deputy Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon at the Jagalchi Market shopping area’s ‘Jagalchi Gallery.’
The meeting will focus on key agenda items such as support for seafood safety management and consumption promotion, sharing major contents from the Central-Local Cooperation Meeting, and actively responding to current issues.
In particular, the city has formed and is operating a dedicated team for marine and seafood safety management led by Deputy Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon. Through providing scientific and objective information and active communication, the team strives to alleviate citizens’ concerns and minimize regional economic damage. The city plans to collaborate with districts and counties to implement more effective response measures.
Additionally, to revitalize seafood consumption, the city is promoting a seafood mutual discount support project. Plans include regional specialty seafood discount events, support for discount coupons on local online malls, and operating direct transaction markets to stabilize prices and encourage consumption.
Within “Dongbaektong,” an online special exhibition titled “Busan Excellent Seafood Online Promotion” will be held to conduct seafood consumption promotion discount campaigns and special sales events for excellent seafood. Practical support will be provided through discount coupon support and delivery fee assistance for seafood sales businesses within the jurisdiction (when ordering event items for delivery).
Furthermore, seafood sales will be linked to various sales events such as festivals and expos hosted by local governments and public institutions to activate seafood consumption promotion. The city will also establish a close cooperation system with related departments (such as the Fisheries Promotion Division) for local festivals and events.
Before the meeting, Deputy Mayor Ahn and the deputy heads of districts and counties will visit local merchants who are currently facing difficulties due to concerns over reduced seafood consumption in the marine and fisheries industry. To promote seafood consumption, they will collectively purchase seafood using Onnuri gift certificates and encourage consumption, while listening to the vivid voices of fisheries industry merchants on site for active review in the subsequent meeting.
Deputy Mayor Ahn stated, “Recently, alongside rising seafood prices, citizens’ interest and concerns about seafood safety have increased.” He emphasized, “The city will devote all efforts to revitalizing seafood consumption through public campaigns, seafood consumption promotion events, and relay special sales events at traditional markets.” He added, “Since unverified claims could cause harm not only to our fishermen but also to those involved in the seafood industry, we will strengthen the seafood safety management system by providing science-based information, conducting radiation inspections of imported seafood, managing distribution history, and carrying out joint special inspections of origin labeling institutions.”
