The Army Non-Commissioned Officer Development Fund Foundation announced on the 23rd that "Lee Young-ae recently donated 100 million won and gifts to the foundation." The donation will be used to support the education expenses of the late Sergeant Lee Tae-gyun's son, who died in the K-9 self-propelled howitzer explosion accident that occurred in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province in 2017, as well as the childcare expenses of 15 non-commissioned officer couples with six or more children.
The K-9 self-propelled howitzer explosion accident occurred on August 18, 2017, when a K-9 self-propelled howitzer belonging to the 5th Artillery Brigade under the 5th Army Corps in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province, caught fire for unknown reasons inside the vehicle during muzzle velocity measurement firing training and exploded while firing the third round of the last firing team. Three people, including Sergeant Lee Tae-gyun, died in the accident and were recognized as national merit recipients.

The bereaved family of Sergeant Lee Tae-gyun, who received the donation, expressed deep gratitude to Lee Young-ae, saying, "We deeply thank Lee Young-ae for not forgetting the incident six years ago and promising to fully support our son's tuition until his university graduation." Lee also donated 100 million won last year to Ukraine, which suffered damage from the Russian invasion.
