Former Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin Appointed as Inaugural Chairman
The 'General Baek Seon-yeop Memorial Foundation' has been established to honor the hero of the Korean War, the late General Baek Seon-yeop. The foundation's inaugural chairman will be former Minister of National Defense Kim Kwan-jin.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that it approved the establishment of the non-profit organization, the General Baek Seon-yeop Memorial Foundation, on the 12th. Former Minister Kim, who will serve as the first chairman, is also currently a member of the Presidential Defense Innovation Committee. The foundation's inaugural ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 30th at the Air Force Hall in Seoul.

During the Korean War, General Baek served as the commander of the 1st Division, leading delaying actions in the early stages of the war and commanding the Battle of Dabudong on the Nakdong River defense line. He was the first to recapture Pyongyang and later led the Republic of Korea Army as the Chief of Staff in the later stages of the war. In April, during President Yoon Seok-yeol's visit to the United States, General Baek was featured as one of the 'Top 10 Heroes' of the Korean War on a large electronic billboard in Times Square, Manhattan, New York.
