Daejeon Taxi Base Fare to Increase from 3,300 Won to 4,300 Won Next Month
The base fare for taxis in Daejeon will increase by 1,000 won starting next month.
On the 21st, Daejeon City announced that from the 1st of next month, the local taxi base fare will be raised from the current 3,300 won to 4,300 won.
The taxi base fare will be increased for the first time in 4 years and 6 months since January 1, 2019.
Along with the base fare increase, the base distance will be shortened by 200 meters from the existing 2 km to 1.8 km. Additionally, the distance fare will change from 100 won per 133 meters to 100 won per 132 meters, and the time fare will increase from 100 won per 34 seconds to 100 won per 33 seconds.
The late-night surcharge hours (midnight to 4 a.m.) will also be extended to 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. to promote late-night taxi use and reflect the closing times of small business owners.
The local taxi industry had requested Daejeon City since July last year to raise the taxi base fare to 6,000 won for 2 km, citing reasons such as the spread of COVID-19 and rising prices.
However, Daejeon City emphasized that during consultations with the taxi industry, it focused on minimizing the increase considering the low-income economy and price stability. The increased taxi base fare was finalized after review by the Transportation Committee and the Consumer Policy Committee.
Ko Hyun-deok, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of Daejeon City, said, “We will work together with the taxi industry to ensure that the fare increase leads to improved services for citizens. We hope that the increase in the taxi base fare will help resolve the management difficulties of the taxi industry and improve the treatment of transportation workers, serving as an opportunity for those who left the field after COVID-19 to return.”
