Prioritizing Residents' Lives and Safety, Responding Swiftly to Various Disaster Situations
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Hogwon) announced that it has been operating a ‘Comprehensive Disaster Safety Situation Room’ since June to prevent various disaster situations and respond swiftly.
Following the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s comprehensive plan to reorganize the national safety system earlier this year, the district renovated the existing situation room into a comprehensive disaster safety situation room operating 24/7, 365 days a year, through about five weeks of improvement construction.
Previously, the situation room operated 24 hours a day with a four-person work system (1 duty commander, 3 duty officers) in shifts. However, from June 1, the name was changed to ‘Comprehensive Disaster Safety Situation Room’ and it now operates with a five-person work system (4 people in 4 teams on a three-shift rotation, 1 person on constant duty), including one disaster safety situation officer working 24 hours.
The district expects this to greatly help in performing its core duties, such as responding more quickly and thoroughly to various disaster situations and major incidents occurring within the area.
Starting May 12, the district began comprehensive improvement construction of the disaster safety situation room. The work included full reinforcement of the aging walls, floors, and ceilings of the workspace, removal and new installation of the break room boiler, installation of hardwood flooring, and automatic door construction.
Additionally, installation of CCTV monitoring computers, signage installation, inspection and reinforcement of the district office’s integrated security system, and relocation of the seismic accelerometer were completed.
On the 20th, an unveiling ceremony for the comprehensive disaster safety situation room was held with attendance by District Mayor Choi Hogwon, Deputy Mayor Lee Inmo, and others. Mayor Choi received a report on the progress of the situation room project and carefully toured the improved workspace. He also expressed gratitude for the hard work of the staff on duty and urged them to continue working diligently with a strong sense of mission, always prioritizing residents’ safety.
