On the 20th (local time), President Yoon Suk-yeol held a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and agreed to strengthen cooperation in advanced technology and future strategic industries. In particular, the two leaders expressed their determination to closely cooperate in responding to North Korea's illegal activities.
President Yoon announced this during a joint press conference with President Macron at the ?lys?e Palace in Paris that afternoon. At the event, President Yoon said, "As the world faces uncertainty and complex crises, cooperation between our two countries must expand into advanced technology and future strategic industries," adding, "Through today's summit, we will discuss practical economic cooperation enhancement and joint measures to establish a stable supply chain." He specifically emphasized the importance of cooperation in future strategic industries such as space and aviation.

President Yoon referred to France as "a long-time friend of the Republic of Korea," stating, "When the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea were threatened during the Korean War, France was a true ally that came to our aid." He continued, "We will never forget the noble sacrifices made by 3,421 French veterans who fought for a foreign country and unfamiliar people," and added, "Thanks to such support, the Republic of Korea has developed into an economic powerhouse, became the country that produced the film 'Parasite,' and is now the home of K-pop, which excites young people in Paris."
Regarding the North Korean issue, he conveyed a message of cooperative response. President Yoon said, "The Republic of Korea aims to contribute to building a free, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific as a responsible global nation," and "We will closely cooperate with France, which leads the Indo-Pacific strategy in Europe." He further stated, "The threat posed by North Korea's nuclear weapons and missiles is a challenge to peace not only on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia but also to the world," adding, "As the next non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the Republic of Korea will work closely with France, a permanent member, to respond to this challenge."
Additionally, President Yoon expressed his hope for the interest of President Macron and the French people in Busan, which is bidding to host the 2030 World Expo. President Yoon explained, "The Busan World Expo will continue the spirit of innovation and cooperation advocated by the BIE and provide a platform for exchanges that create new business opportunities among global companies." President Yoon will attend the 172nd General Assembly of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) immediately after the summit.
