Child Falls from 12th Floor, Miraculously Survives... "Tree Cushioned the Impact"
Fell from a tree in the apartment flowerbed
with abrasions and leg injuries but no life-threatening condition
A three-year-old child who fell from the 12th floor of an apartment miraculously survived. It was thanks to the dense trees in the flowerbed.
According to the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 15th, at around 8:27 a.m. that day, a report was received from an apartment in Pyeongtaek-si stating, "There was a 'thud' sound, and when we looked, a child had fallen."
The child involved in the accident was A-gun (3), who lived on the 12th floor. A-gun had abrasions on his face and was bleeding from the nose, with severe injuries including deformation of the right leg. However, fortunately, he was conscious and breathing.
The fire authorities considered A-gun a critical patient and deployed a fire helicopter.
Eight minutes after the report was received, at 8:35 a.m., they arrived at the scene, provided emergency treatment, and then transported A-gun by fire helicopter to the nearby Samsung Electronics helipad in Godeok-dong. From there, at 9:05 a.m., A-gun was transferred to a helicopter bound for Ajou University Hospital, which has a regional trauma center, for rapid transport.
A-gun arrived at Ajou University Hospital at 9:16 a.m., about 10 minutes later. He is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries.
A-gun’s guardian reportedly told fire officials, "After sending my older child off to school on the first floor, I returned home and found that the younger child (A-gun) was missing," adding, "The window of the master bedroom veranda was open, and I realized the accident after seeing him on the ground."
The fire authorities estimate that A-gun’s fall was cushioned by the trees in the apartment’s flowerbed, which reduced the impact.
